Citizen science and feline colonies
Citizen science is the participation of non-professionals in collecting and recording data that is later used to study and manage a phenomenon. In feline colonies, the people who care for them every day know the ground best: how many cats there are, which ones are neutered, what changes from one month to the next.
Recording that information in an orderly way makes it possible to justify decisions and improve management. Here are some ways to take part:
- If you care for a colony, you can register it with the Meow Metrics free account; your data stays private.
- If you work with an association or a local government, ask them to invite you to the platform: whoever receives the invitation decides whether to accept it.
- If you want to know what the research says, see the catalogue of scientific studies.
